In California Asians are less than 10% of the population, but take a staggering number of the spots at the top universities. Almost half.That's because only the most able Chinese make it out of China. So people of Chinese ancestry who live in the US are not representative of all people of Chinese ancestry. Not to mention the cultural effect - the Chinese culture encourages a level of hard work that the American culture does not. I have had Chinese-Amercian colleagues who got themselves to technical positions by pure work effort that then they didn't have the inherent ability to sustain. |
