But Pascal's wager assumes that there is either one God or no God. If there are many gods, and especially if there are many competing gods (as there certainly were in the early history of religion), Pascal's wager would not apply. In the holy books there are many cases where people came to grief (sometimes a fate worse than death) by worshipping the wrong god(s).Please, please, please don't remind me of Xenophon of Ephesus... |
