That was the example I was looking to use, but I was afraid it would elicit negative reaction.

If the sign is in English, at least it allows those to know what is going on in there and make the conscious choice to not patronize it, rather than wonder whether it would be worthwhile or not because the shingle is in some cryptic code.

On the other hand, suppose (*&^(^%$$&^%*& meant "whorehouse" in some foreign language, and because you couldn't read the sign or look behind the frosted glass, you were excluded.

The barrier could be positive, i.e. a religious goods store of no interest to you, or it could be negative, i.e. a whorehouse, food store, or other establishment, preventing you from partaking in your interest.
