Palestine is not a Germanic word or an Arab word, its a bastardization of Syria Palaestina, a Roman phrase which is what Hadrian renamed the Judah and Samaria after the second Jewish war in 135. He used that name to mock the defeated Jews by naming the country after the Philistines, the Jews' implacable enemy. He then exiled the remaining Jews in Judah and Samaria and brought in people from other countries to live there, as was the custom in those days. The people he brought in were not native to the area.
