The gunman exploited a known security gap. According to the NYT (or maybe it was LAT), news photographers/paparazzi often stake out the perimeter of that course to get photos. They claimed that the gunman could have even gotten to a place that would be much closer to Trump, but likely picked that spot as it's farther and less chance of photographers being there.The article also claimed that photographers say that they are rarely approached by secret service and even when they are, they aren't asked to leave. |
