So you haven't taken road trips in years? or you've only driven diesels?

If you want to tool around town in a manual, have at it. But you have to be really special to use one on the open road

???

If you mean a stickshift, they are way easier to drive on the "open road" if you mean a highway without traffic lights or an interstate.
