Robinson was safe because the umpire said he was safe and the umpire has the final say. It's how THEY see it, not how it really happened. By the way, I remember when the American League umpires had the outer chest protector while the National League umps had it under their jacket. When I was a vendor at Yankee and Shea I would ride home on the subway with umpire Emmott Ashford and had good conversations with him. We both got off at 7th Avenue, Ashford's hotel was there and I transferred to the E train to Queens. |
