And particularly not these days, where the biggest advocates of criminalizing and controlling speech are on the left side of the spectrum.

It's the right wing who want to make it illegal for doctors to tell patients about their options if they're pregnant, and who call it treason when people call for the withdrawal of all US troops from Iraq. It's those horrible liberals in the ACLU who think it should be legal (even though undesirable) for the KKK to march anywhere it wants and carry any banners it wants.

There are some leftists who advocate restriction of free speech, but they have no political force behind them. The right wingers who advocate restirctions do have more strength, however.
