Saalam - I had no problem with our in-person interaction all those years ago - I'd like to think we both treated each other right, despite our vastly different backgrounds. That's actually one of the reasons for my posting the original questions in this thread - you are a nice guy in person with no need to treat people one way or another because of their skin color or religion - but yet, you are a follower of a belief system that says that Whites are inherently evil "Devils". How can you reconcile such a belief with your experience with others?Perhaps recent events here in Israel are the reason for my thinking of things like this. Many previously were dismissive of Hamas' rhetoric about killing Jews as "just talk - they don't actually really mean it literally". The events on and since 7 October have put lie to those beliefs - making me think that if somebody says they want to kill me, perhaps I should take them seriously. The nasty, racist rhetoric and teachings of the Nation of Islam just aren't so cute when my sons have now been called up to active duty to face another group whose anti-Jewish rhetoric was also previously dismissed as "just talk". My sons are now quite literally putting their lives on the line fighting the followers of such beliefs - so asking someone who claims to be anti-violence to explain how they can reconcile that claim with similar racist views is legitimate. subfan |
