And nobody [in Africa] gets along and there's nothing but strife.

One big problem is that the colonial lines did not reflect the ethnicity of the indigenous people. There were at least two or more ethnic groups in each colony. The colonial powers used this difference to keep the ethnic groups fighting each other, rather than uniting against the occupying power..
