This was more that the unions wanted an additional day off and the government felt that adding this could make it look like they gave a darn. In September 2020, President Donald Trump included making Juneteenth a federal holiday in his "Platinum Plan for Black America." I agree with the commemoration of Abraham Lincoln emancipating the slaves, but I disagree that this is an independence day. |
