AGAIN, nowhere in NYS' policy statement or prioritization matrix, are people being given or denied COVID treatment based on race. Stating that race is a risk factor is neither new nor discriminatory. Being Black in America IS a risk factor for many health issues, including heart disease, shortened life expectancy, stroke, asthma, and a host of other conditions, and has been for centuries. I clearly remember my earliest EMS days, when our American Heart Association training materials listed being Black as a major risk factor for heart disease, and that was almost 40 years ago. That certainly doesn't mean Black people got lifesaving cardiac care over White patients!That lawsuit is without merit, because its claims are just plain wrong. |
