The total popular vote is interesting, occasionally of importance when someone is trying to allege or refute a "mandate," and legally of no consequence.It is of great value in terms of trying to make sense of imperfect polling results and preliminary election returns. For example, the fairly complete early returns for GA and MN provided a lot of hope for Biden supporters, because there was factual information available about how those states leaned on the D-R scale in 2016. |
