Most of the other Western countries (except Brazil) abolished slavery peacefully and years before the southern US. This includes the northern US. The South had to be dragged kicking and screaming into abolition of slavery and they continued to resent their defeat for over a century afterwards, venerating their traitor "heroes", and pushing a revisionist narrative as to the cassus belli. |
