I have already stated unequivocally that I lost this thread so this is sort of like those stupid quote unquote friendly tilts in s-ccer; that is, it is meaningless and counts for absolutely nothing but here goes:One thing I do not lose sight of is the fact that all of us are influenced by behavioral genetics and our environment. It is always easier to sit here on our throne and question the motives and morality of those from an earlier time. I have given thought to what if I lived in Nazi Germany? Is it remotely possible I might have been mesmerized and swept up by Hitler's soaring rhetoric, whether his economic message or political angle or ideological bent? Would I have reacted as a card carrying member or been enlightened enough to see through it to the evil undercurrents? It is an admittedly poor analogy but when a pilot is involved in an incident or tragic accident I hesitate to join in the chorus of those who engage in criticizing without having been in that environment. What appears to be clear to the uninformed is often not the case. Go through the stress and rigor of a Maneuvers Validation or LOE and then we can talk; at least, that's what the pilots tell me. |
