The party that is least trying to micromanage individuals is Libertarian. Republicans and Democrats both have things they want to control:

Republicans: Psyhoactive Drugs, Abortion, Immigration, Sex, Education
Democrats: Speech, Eating Habits, Wages, Products [e.g. straw and plastic bag bans], Healthcare, Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, Education*

*If you want deregulated education neither donkey nor elephant will be of assistance.
