My point is that for every person like you who didn't bother to vote Republican, there could have been (and probably was) a person who didn't bother to vote Democratic.

I'm kindof agreeing with you on this. Except, considering the blue states skew high population, and red ones skew low population, the number of D voters in red states is dwarfed by the number of R voters in blue ones. If you double the number of Clinton voters in 2016 in North Dakota, and give Trump only 10% more voters in NY, he still gains more votes were the electoral college eliminated.
