Even though slavery was legal (although attitudes towards it were changing at the time) the founders saw that it would be repealed at some future time. Several states also demanded changes and enumerations not included in the original document, which was intended as a framework for government. Those became the first ten amendments. This provided a means to address issues and rights in a framework. It was INTENDED to be changed.It's time to do so again. This IS the twenty-first century, not the 18th. |
