That is debatable as Sen. Byrd did nothing to help minorities get out of a system that was designed to keep them on government handouts. He supported excessive regulation that prevented minorities from opening their own businesses. He fought against modifying Welfare. He supported dumping more money into failing schools to appease the unions, but little actually went to improving quality of education. He fought against voucher programs that would allow those students in failing schools to go to better schools. He supported affirmative action in colleges that only increase the failure rate of minorities because they are not in a position academically to handle the rigors of college since they, due to having a failing public education, lacked the knowledge that colleges assume their students have. |
