You haven't actually answered Nilet's objection, though with enough work you probably could.

Just because blacks rioted and people died doesn't mean the deaths can be attributed to the rioters.

Suppose all the dead were rioters. Nilet no doubt would claim that the appropriate response to the rioting was not killing rioters, and therefore the rioters were not the cause of their own deaths.

I think history is on your side, because many of the deaths can be attributed to justifiable self defense by police and national guard, but your simple statement is not a refutation.
