You're committing an equivocation fallacy.Ever since the "black race" was invented in the late 17th century, society has declared that being black is inherently shameful— the fact that you are black makes you inferior and subhuman. Since "pride" is more or less the opposite of "shame," black people use the term "black pride" to indicate they refuse to be ashamed of having been born and reject society's insistence that they should be. Ever since the "white race" was invented in the late 17th century, society has declared that being white makes you inherently superior— you may not be an aristocrat, but even as a commoner, the fact that you are white makes you inherently better than anyone who isn't. White people use the term "white pride" to indicate they accept the notion that they are inherently superior— which, you may recall, is pretty much the definition of racism. "Black pride" means: "I am not subhuman." It's a demand for equal rights. "White pride" means: "I am the master race." It's a demand for supremacy. See the difference? |
