Miseed this part, eh?The new Commonwealth report, which parallels other recent studies, indicates that healthcare insurance cost growth has slowed in recent years. The overall price of an employer-provided family health plan, which includes the share paid by employers and the share paid by employees, increased 6% annually on average from 2003 to 2010, according to the report. By contrast, annual growth from 2010 to 2013 averaged only 4.9%. The employees' share of premiums also grew more slowly after 2010, increasing on average by 5.9% annually compared with 7.2% a year from 2003 to 2010. Commonwealth Fund President David Blumenthal, who previously worked in the Obama administration, noted the health law may have contributed in part to the slowdown. The law requires insurers to curtail administrative costs and provides new incentives to hospitals to improve quality and efficiency. |
