The 2 parties are like 2 restaurants. One restaurant is popular and everybody goes there while they pass up the other restaurant. After a while the popular restaurant gets sloppy, like maybe the tablecloths aren't clean or the service gets bad. So then people look at the 2nd restaurant and say "lets give them a try".
