Are you familiar with the term "Job Participation Rate"? Said rate began falling around mid 1999...Those individuals are no longer counted in the unemployment rate.The U-6 unemployment rate, which counts those people, has closely followed the U-3 umemployment rate which doesn't. U-3:  U-6:  The difference between the two dropped from about 5 to 3 from 1994 to 2000, increased to 4 by 2002 and stayed there through 2007, grew to 7 by the end of 2008, and has steadily fallen to 6 since early 2012. |
