Here's a link to a study on the subject of racial composition of public and private elementary and secondary schools. The reluctance to fund public schools by those who send their children to private schools is well known. The segregation crisis was enveloping Boston while I was attending college there. Jonathon Kozol documented the sorry state of the schools there. He noted that Boston's per student expenditure was for predominantly black schools. He also noted that schools in neighborhoods with private parochial schools were not far behind. You don't need to look at the past or far away to verify this phenomenon. Look at today's East Ramapo School District, here in NY State. |
