And a lot of Texas GDP and GDP growth is due to oil and gas.

There is nothing inherently wrong with those products (environmental issues notwithstanding, we still need them), but it's not as though it's much that Texans have control over, and it tends to make the rich richer without really benefiting the middle class.

Though the same could be said about NY's financial services industry.
