Because Jesus (or any other religious figure) has no place in a speech like that. Neither does Genesis.

Actually, they do because it's a speech about the constructive aspects of religion, relative to the new appointee and new State Department initiatives about religion. Why do you not understand that?

And the hypocrisy is what is the most blatant. He'd be the first to criticize a rightist politician for doing the same.

I seriously doubt he would ever criticize a right wing politician for quoting Jesus as a reason for helping your fellow man or for similarly constructive reasons.
