From the NYDAILYNEWS.COM:Ferguson Officer Darren Wilson once a member of police force disbanded over racial tension: report The officer who shot Michael Brown six times on Aug. 9 was a former member of the Jennings Police Department, which its city council disbanded in 2011 over corruption and racial tension among its residents. Wilson reportedly did not have any disciplinary issues with the department, but all 45 officers were fired. BY Edgar Sandoval , Joel Landau , Bill Hutchinson NEW YORK DAILY NEWSPublished: Sunday, August 24, 2014, 11:22 AMUpdated: Monday, August 25, 2014, 1:50 AM The white cop who killed unarmed black teen Michael Brown on Aug. 9 was once part of a Missouri police force that was disbanded over racial tensions in the community it served. Officer Darren Wilson was a member of the 45-employee Jennings, Mo., Police Department that was fired by its city council in 2011 and replaced by St. Louis County Police, the Washington Post reported. Wilson, 28, didn’t rack up any disciplinary issues during his tenure in Jennings, but the nearly all-white police force came under fire for its poor relations with the predominantly black community. “The straw that broke the camel’s back — an officer shot at a (black) female,” Rodney Epps, a Jennings city council member, told the newspaper. “She was stopped for a traffic violation. She had a child in the back (of the) car and was probably worried about getting locked up. And this officer chased her down Highway 70, past city limits, and took a shot at her. Just ridiculous,” Epps said. A black Jennings resident, Cassandra Fuller, said cops beat her in 2009 on her front porch after she joked about a car that crashed into her van in front of her house. “It’s like a horror story in my mind,” she said. “I never thought police would pull me off my porch and beat me to the ground, for just laughing,” said Fuller, who sued the department. Wilson, who was raised in Texas, was among the officers given the chance to reapply for their jobs, but he left Jennings for the nearby Ferguson Police Department. As news of Wilson’s past emerged, Michael Brown Sr. addressed a rally in Ferguson one day before his son’s funeral and pleaded for “a day of silence.” “Tomorrow all I want is peace when my son is laid to rest,” said the father, speaking behind a giant sign reading, “I understand, son, but put down the pistol!" “Please, please, take a day of silence, so we can lay our son to rest,” Brown said. “Please, it’s all I ask of you.” The Rev. Al Sharpton is scheduled to give the eulogy at Brown’s funeral Monday, which is expected to draw thousands of mourners to the Friendly Temple Missionary Baptist Church in St. Louis. Sybrina Fulton and Tracy Martin — the parents of Trayvon Martin, the black Florida teen gunned down in 2012 by a white neighborhood watchman — also attend Sunday’s “Peacefest” rally to show support for the Brown family. “We want you guys to stay focused,” Fulton told the crowd. “We all know we need to stop the violence. Michael Brown had the right to live. He had the right to see another birthday. So did Trayvon Martin.” Martin encouraged protesters to hold authorities accountable with their voting power. “It’s time for us to start making changes,” Martin said. “This is our country, too. Our kids need to be treated as equal.” Edgar Sandoval reported from Ferguson, Mo.
