There is no such thing as solid police procedure. Every situation is unique and the tactics deployed depend on how tightly a situation has to be contained and who is at peril. I wasn't shitting you before when I told you that my buddies had told me that shooting the hostage was a viable solution *IF* there was no other practical means available during an escape situation in a kidnapping.I'll also say that I won't offer the details of the scenario because it's considered TAC CON but there ARE scenarios published where this is an option. It is ALSO part of the tactical training that wherever possible, try to immobilize the suspect and not blow them up the way you describe IF POSSIBLE as a higher priority. If you're in a shootout and the public is at risk, then just take their asses out. In a situation where you're confident in your training and ability to control your weapon, then try to take the kneecaps out first. If you're a shit shot, then (and if you ARE a cop you'll know that I speak truthfully here) "aim for the T" so that the gunman won't even be able to pull the trigger when you drop them. Kapische? |
