I'm not Wayne Jay, but here are my qualifications! I took a two quarter class at Stanford called Worlds of Islam to fulfill a general education humanities requirement.Here's the course summary: "Two quarter sequence. Chronological and geographical overview of times and places in which Islam has been the dominant cultural framework. Elements of the Muslim faith and its related political, social, and cultural practices from the 7th-century rise of Islam to the recent past. Geographic range includes the historic Arab heartland of Islam, Africa, Persia, the Ottoman Empire, and Central Asia." While I certainly have no proof of others' bonafides on the topic, I'd posit I know more about Islam than most of the people shouting politics on an internet forum about the New York City Subway. |
