A pension is part of the compensation package, *not* a government handout. "I would argue that the pension itself is not a handout, but I am rather perturbed about the exemption for state income taxes that is given to public employees in New York State, while those receiving private pensions or making use of their 401k/IRA or equivalent accounts only receive the exclusion for the first $20k of income. |
