Because there are individual rights not subject to majority vote. Come on, you know this.You have got to be kidding if you believe this! A Moslem majority in Israel could easily "vote" to amend the constitution and declare an Islamic state. Name one Arab state that respects Jews and would let them live in peace within their borders. It is not hard to predict what would happen if an Islamic majority were to take over the government in Israel A majority of Americans might well vote to make America a Christian nation if they could but I doubt you'd support that. That is theoretically possible BUT NOT PROBABLE... Given sufficient power and votes a constitutional amendment could be passed repealing the guarantees of freedom of religion that are in the constitution. Just because it is highly improbable here does not mean that it is improbable in other countries - particularly those where the people vote for theocratic parties / leaders... (Ayatollahs in Iran, Moslem Brotherhood in Egypt, etc...) |
