Oppression is bad in principle and there is no statute of limitations on the obligation to end it. How it began, on the other hand, is incidental— oppression needs to be ended regardless.

At the moment, the West Bank and Gaza are being oppressed by Israel. This needs to end, just like every other form of oppression. How it started is irrelevant.

At the moment, Jamaica is suffering residual/collateral damage from having been oppressed by Britain in the past. This needs to end, just like every other form of oppression. How it started is irrelevant.
