Problem is, we can't pay reparations until they get their democracy back, and we can't put their democracy back because sticking our noses into other countries' governments is how we got into this mess in the first place and it never ends well when we do it.It's a conundrum. I'm pretty sure that Guatemala has liberated itself enough to be ready to receive the reparations we owe them for overthrowing their democracy and installing a dictatorship so that one American corporation wouldn't have to pay a negligible property tax on the vast quantities of land they had essentially stolen from the locals. Perhaps a few million years from now, when humanity has long since gone extinct, the cockroaches who live in the ruins of what was once America will push a few crumbs in the general direction of the ruins of what was once Guatemala. Because actually admitting that we did that and it was wrong is obviously never going to happen, let alone agreeing we owe them something for it. Hell, in America, slavery is still considered a "controversial" topic that the left vehemently opposes but many people on the right support. |
