Whatever floats their boat, I guess. Bottom line is that aside from the really cranky old bastards, most Irish Catholics don't give a shit about getting all wound up over this kinda stuff. Live and let live, or I'll punch you in the face. :)Just to step into YOUR sidewalk act for a minute, when I was in seminary, part of the discussion about parishes went into the different expectations between predominantly Irish and predominantly Italian parishes, and it gave me giggles ... the Italian parishes expected their priests to dispense fire and brimstone and "you're all going straight to hell" whereas the IRISH parishes were "fuck that, c'mere and give me a hug" ... and Christ, in his infinite wisdom accepted both but was largely "ummm ... stop sinning and you don't have to eat brimstone" So I suppose that upbringing and the expectations "expected" by different congregations might have had some sort of effect and the church was willing to sell whatever filled the collection plate. Can't help being Irish and all, but I'm not going to get all butthurt over it either way. To me, Jesus is LOVE, just stop sinning and you're good. :) |
