Who's terrorizing? Unlike yourself, I actually AM Irish. My stance on all this is completely bended from apparently everyone else's. I consider the Hibernians a backward group myself, and I've dealt with them personally. They're throwbacks to a different time and I understand that.

My own take on all this is that parades themselves are a stupid artifice of a land that time forgot. A bunch of people assembling a procession so they can show their numbers for whatever reason they feel like. And as far as I'm concerned, they have full "freedom of association" to associate with whoever the hell they feel like and those who disagree have the God-given right to turn their backs on them. That affects the number of people who show up to participate in or stand on the sidewalk and watch them go by.

If the Hibernians don't want gays in their parade, I have no problem with that. And I certainly wouldn't want to see them FORCED into it, because if THEY get forced into allowing people they don't want in THEIR parade, what's to stop a gay pride parade from having to allow Westboro people or several militant NRA sections in THEIR parade? Take away one group's freedoms and everybody else can lose theirs. So that's how *I* see it.

The Mister Patrick parade ain't no fun anyway anymore - the big thrill to it years ago was following along with the parade, bar-hopping up Fifth Avenue until you ran out of bars. :)
