Ours has been unpowered for a couple of years now for the very reason you provide. I'll bet Mr. Smartypants didn't know that either. :)The synthesized voice for the service has improved greatly over the years, but the amount of information provided in the loop is exactly the same text you can read for yourself on the NOAA site. For example, the latest current report here: Tonight. Scattered showers, mainly after 4am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 35. South wind 15 to 17 mph, with gusts as high as 28 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. Saturday. Scattered showers, mainly before 7am. Partly sunny, with a high near 48. Breezy, with a southwest wind 11 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 33 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. Saturday Night. Partly cloudy, with a low around 20. West wind 14 to 17 mph. Not all that terribly useful anymore compared to their site, but better than nothing at all. :) |
