Conspiracy theorists severely overestimate the power of the United States government to conceal secrets.I agree, when it involves people acting outside their job description. If Navy personnel accidentally (or deliberately) shot down the plane, someone would have talked, because many people would have known whose jobs did not generally involve clandestine activity. What I could believe is that the pilot of KAL 007 was paid by the CIA to deliberately violate Soviet airspace so that the US could monitor how the Soviets would react to such an incursion. That is a secret that only very few people need ever have known. |
