"Only if a fertilized ovum is a human being. It is alive, and is a potential human being, but many philosophers, even Christian ones, have believed that "humanness" arises some time after fertilization. To believe that every fertilized ovum is human means that every unforced miscarriage (of which there are millions each year, most of which wind up going down the toilet) is a human death. If so, why aren't there proper funerals for them? Why aren't they named and remembered? |
