Luther first started to complain about the excesses of the papacy long before 1517. However, he still remained in the Church. His official break with the Church came early in 1517, Feb 27th, to be exact. Luther saw no internal reformation in the Catholic church, after Alexander's death, so he posted his 95 Theses on that date. |
