Chieftains starting wars against weaker neighbors could be genocide. I'm not saying otherwise. Genocide is defined as against an ethnic, racial, caste, religious, or national group. The mass slaughter of the Tutsis by the Hutus that took place in 1994 in Rwanda was genocide.Article 2 of the United Nations Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide (CPPCG) defines genocide as "any of the following acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group, as such: killing members of the group; causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group; deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life, calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part; imposing measures intended to prevent births within the group; [and] forcibly transferring children of the group to another group." What I am saying is that you can't describe ALL slave trade as genocidal. Not ALL tribes, etc, were wiped out of existence. That's what the Hutus were trying to do to the Tutsis. That's what the Nazis were trying to do to the Jews. |
