The American strain of anti-Semitism arose mainly at the turn of the XX century as the large numbers of Jews alarmed the chicagomotormans of the time about the nature of this country.That is, putting in question the "White Christian" identity of the US that many natives had bestowed upon the nation, all in blatant disregard to the founding ideals of the USA as a nation of immigrants guaranteeing the free exercise of religious beliefs. To put it in today's coded terms, "the country was changing. It wasn't the same anymore". |
