Ridiculous?"Judeo-Christian" is as anti-Semitic as it gets. It's a catcall for the coopting and eventual elimination of the Jewish religion and its distinct people into the Christian faith. After the Holocaust, saying "Christian Nation" made people uneasy. So right-wing Christian Supremacists invented "Judeo-Christian" on the idea that if you can't kill 'em, you can eliminate the Jews by attrition and absorption. Other than Christianity using the Old Testament as a historic timeline and explanation of subsequent events (the coming of the Messiah, etc), Judaism has nothing to do with Christianity. Islam is much closer to Christianity from a theological standpoint. Yet how many times have you ever heard Christians or Muslims say Islamo-Christianity? NEVER because it makes just about as much sense as "Judeo-Christianity" (slightly more actually). |
