On Sunday evening at SFO I happened across a classmate from 737 training in Houston over the summer. Like me, he was a United double furloughee. During his second furlough, he went over to KAL and flew 747s I think it was. He could not get out of that place fast enough. He found the culture to be so foreign, literally and figuratively, to that which we as American aviators have come to expect and appreciate. The flight deck environment, the interaction between Captain and crew (CRM), was difficult if not altogether non-existent. I heard about the rote memorization but the additional stress just added to the inherent stress that is already part and parcel of flying. I need to be careful and want to be diplomatic so I'll end by simply stating there is a perception slash reality call it what you will that the Captain is Almighty and the F/O hesitates to suggest/recommend/correct actions.Almighty |
