He was a Christian clergyman, after all.

I wouldn't have had a problem with a Mormon clergyman at President Romney's inauguration making a reference to Moroni.

Neither reference takes any kind of measurable step toward creating an established religion. It's not like a government entity putting a manger containing Jesus on their public property.
