Link"New York City Transit Bus, MTA Bus and Long Island Bus will each maintain its individual identity and funding, while a managerial restructuring will increase accountability and ensure consistency in serving the entire MTA region." i.e.: Don't look for the orange stripe to disappear or the fleet numbers to change anytime soon. Also, the press release doesn't mantion June 1 anywhere. It says "[NYCTA Senior Vice President for Buses Joseph] Smith assumes the new titles immediately and expects to fully implement the new management structure within 60 to 90 days." The LI Bus home page alludes to service changes coming June 22. |

Exactly, as the separate MTAB/NYCB identities cause unnecessary confusion.LIB (and Bee-Line should it be absorbed into the MTA) should be kept as separate identities, as they provides service to a specific area not served by other bus agencies. |

All three are now headed by one guy. So, you may as well start calling everything MTA Bus. Paint is paint and paychecks are paychecks, but his duties begin immediately. The next step will be to interchange equipment on a regular basis. If necessary, equipment will be brought to MTA bus to fix as the city must pay for that. Then, the equipment can be sent back to LI Bus (read: transferring costs from Nassau County to NYC as NYC just paid to fix it). Expect all buses to lose the orange stripe in LI. Routes will continue to be separate, but NYC Transit will now plan for everyone and run things like scheduling and bus rotations. This explains why the 8XXXs are being run until they are close to breaking in half. There isn't enough money for normal replacement now and there isn't enough money to even pull down federal funds for the match. Isn't NJT having the same problem? I would expect all LIB units to be renumbered and some of CP's Orion Vs to migrate east along with JG's Orion Vs. The new buses will be debugged in NYC before anything heads east. Eventually, Nassau will cut all subsidy for LIB. If Suffolk puts more in to their budget at $16 million than Nassau does and Nassau has twice as many buses, what makes anyone think that Nassau can't just walk away? They will. |

No, the press release clearly states:"New York City Transit Bus, MTA Bus and Long Island Bus will each maintain its individual identity and funding" So it says the buses you see will still be either NYCT Bus, MTA Bus, or LI Bus. It doesn't say anything about seeing "MTA Regional Bus". |

All of the S89s were supposed to be operated to federal standards and inspected by USDOT. When the "lights went off", so did the blue inspection diamonds. You can ask SIR to confirm that not all the S89s carry inspection stickers anymore. You have to remember who you are dealing with. "Maintaining an identity" simply means that the buses will keep their names for now and the checks will still list LIB, NYCTA, and MTA Bus as the issuers. However, they are now one agency with three separate workforces. There is no savings in running three separate agencies. This is all about savings. |

Let's get this point across first: It's a MANAGEMENT takeover. From the looks of the link that was given, LIB will remain as their current identity at least for now.Currently, there are 3 entities under 1 MTA umbrella: NYCT, MTAB and LIB. PERHAPS someday down the road whenever REGIONAL BUS OFFICIALLY takes effect, THEN and ONLY THEN you will see everything all under 1 identity: more or less MTAB. |

This is Regional Bus (or Consolidated Bus). Welcome to the new era. One guy is now running all three agencies. This means there are no longer three agencies. A consolidation of management means it is one entity. All will now be run like NYCT without restrictions = MTA Bus.This is how heavy duty things are done. The legislature wants the savings of Regional Bus, but they still want a say over what happens. |

Why did they want everything to be this way? 2. Where is all of the money to do this nonsense come from? 3. How were they able to pick this Joe Smith of all people to do everything? 4. How did he get this job...ie crudentials? This takeover will also mean that it will get even tougher to get a job with them. If it isn't tough enough to get 1 already. |

Why did they want everything to be this way?<<A) It saves money. New York City Transit's support infrastructure will now support all MTA bus operations, which makes sense. B) It provides the opportunity to utilize resources more efficiently, which might makes sense. C) It provides the financial infrastructure to run LI Bus without Nassau County money by using NYC funds and state money to do it. >>2. Where is all of the money to do this nonsense come from?<< Savings. Eventual service cuts, elimination of redundant positions. |

I agree that the orange stripe will probably disappear soon and buses will start moving around between NYCT/MTA Bus and LI Bus, but I disagree with your bleak assessment that Nassau will cut their subsidy and walk away. There is no way the politicians from the city and other parts of the state will allow that to happen - the Westchester politicians alone will scream bloody murder given how much they are paying out to run Bee Line. |

They are using NYC as the example. When Rudy Giuliani told the MTA to eat the SIR, the MTA said they would close it down. Giuliani dared them to try it. The SIR continues to run despite not being funded by one NYC dollar.Nassau pays peanuts to the MTA right now. They are barely paying 10% of LIB's budget as it stands now. Watch them get up and walk away very soon. |
