PICS: Old Archived PAT shots |
|
Posted by PATransit on Sat Jan 12 23:36:11 2008 just a quick heads up these are NOT my shots, these were taken by another photographer here in pittsburgh, a majority of these shots were taken around 1999-2000 era (if I can recall) Just thought I'd show these for for enjoy (well before gilligs were even thought of!)....all credits go to Matt Witkowski;Any questions, comments and or concerns...be sure to ask them and I'll answer them to the best of my knowledge ;) |

Did Metroliners get replaced with Metroliners? 2. The 1600s Neoplans---are those Pennliners by any chance (Neoplans from the big PennDOT order)? 3. How old is the Neoplan artic sitting next to the Metroliner? Nice finds. |

Nice representation of PAT from the pre-Gillig days! Please give my props to Mr. Witkowski. Were those Neo artics replaced by the NABIs? Or most likely the suburban Neo artics. The Orion Is...isn't there a story to go along with them. They weren't originally ordered new by PAT, were they (or am I just confusing them with the CTA Orion Is). I'm disappointed that I never got to ride the Orion Vs. They really seemed to be a great fit for PAT. However, I must ask - were the destination signs replaced at some point in their lives? The signs make them look much younger than they were, and I noticed that 2120 had an oder sign, yet 2122 had a newer sign. |

Those "white" buses that you see are actually leased "loaner" buses, when construction was going on they needed the Extra buses to buy service so to answer your questions1. The "Newer" Metroliners replaced our old MCI and TMC MC-9s from the 80s which was about 2000. 2. Yes 3. if your talking about the white artic next to that white metroliner, I'd say about 12-13 years old again, those "white" buses you see were loaner buses they weren't really ours but just on lease because of the construction that was going on and the extra service that was needed. |

The orion I's we had were something from PennDOT on loan to us because of the construction going on as well, you was pretty much right about those man just off on the agency, those were Ex-PACE Orion I's that we had (I never got to ride them unfortunantly) Now the sign thing your mixed up on lol but I'll fix that, the one on 2120 is ACTUALLY the newer kind...while the one on 2122 was actually older one....2120s got retrofitted during its later years, the kind 2122 had is the kind the first order of Orion V's had, the 1990-1 models (2000-2119, along with its sister CNGs 2121, 2123 & 2124) I forget how 2120 managed to get a retrofit but that bus had the sign of its later sisters the 35footers (1650-1686) and the later 91-92 models (2200-2299)...hopefully I explained this to you well If I didn't let me know and I'll try to explain better lol any more question just ask me I'll answer to the best of my knowledge. |

"I'm disappointed that I never got to ride the Orion Vs. They really seemed to be a great fit for PAT"you and me both brother....well actually I got to ride them when those buses were around when I was a kid in the 90s I didn't know what kind of buses they were at the time but I just really liked riding them I remember telling my mom to make sure We would ride those kind of buses lol I wanna shed a tear sometimes because I would do anything to bring them back to our city but its too late now I'm just pissed I never got to get pictures of them like I did of the Flxibles and the currently running Flxibles / Novas :( dont get me wrong I really like the flxs but the orions were my total favorite those 6V92s really sounded great in those buses, I think the last Orion I rode was #2293 DD50 powered orion (We had 13 DD50 powered ones I believe) I just wish I could of had some sort of camera at the time I miss those buses so bad! forgot to mention one of our Former orions were found just last month! #2211 was sitting at a Scrap yard after spending the past 2-3 years at a Fire Department this person took a picture of it I'll post that later on, funny thing about that bus it was the LAST orion V to go period! last running one. the only things I have to remember of our Orions is the two Ride-On ones up in Maryland (5546 and 5547 those buses sound just like ours with the 6V92) LI-Bus also has (or had) some that I like the good thing about it some of orions got second lives up in Canada, Ajax Pickering Transit Authority (I think now known as Durham Area Transit) has atleast 3 or 4 of our 2200s still runnning And to this date I have taken on liking Bee-Lines 2006 Orion V's with the cummins engines (The 600s I believe?)...I dont know why but those things sound mean and I wouldn't mind riding those! |

Very interesting! That's right Ajax-Pickering Transit Authority (APTA) aqcuired 4 ex. PaT Vs: 2216, 2227, 2228, and 2253, and they were renumbered to 2063, 2062, 2065, and, 2064 repectively. When APTA became part of Durham Region Transit, the 2 was changed to and 8 to conform to the new numbering system. I had some pictures on the Pittsburgh Transit History site which is down now. If anyone is interested I can post them here. |

Those Orion V's look so TTC-esque in their original scheme that it isn't funny. That interim white scheme, however, looks ugly especially on the Pennliners and that leased Neoplan artic looks worn-out and ugly. |

Yeah was a while before I figures out what those numbers in the corner were! Also, feel free to show those pictures to others. Maybe you can make your way up here one day and get pics of these buses. It's like a second chance to get them. And apart from the PaT Vs, we have other second hand buses from the US running for DRT: 1 ex. LYNX V, 2 ex. RGRTA Vs, 7 ex. First- Philadelphia Airport LFSes, and a an ex. DDOT Classic (but it was recently retired). I'll post some pics for those interested in another thread. |
