PHOTOS: Q45 crash |
|
Posted by South Brooklyn Railway on Sun Nov 4 11:40:18 2007 My dad called me and told me what happened, so he drove me to the scene of the accident, no one was hurt (thank god), and the driver was taken to the hospital because he was in shock, and it's weird how they called a private towing company, the tow truck that actually towed the mus away from the scene was "Mikes Towing", and the other 2 tow trucks was "Apple Towing", and the car that got hit, I forgot to take a photo of it, but when I seen the car, basically, it was totaled. |

They use them quite often, and I think NYCTA has a contract with them. I see them usually towing Orion VII Hybrids to Manhattanville across 145st, when I am working the Bx19. |

I think those are only for minor road call tow jobs though. If a bus has to be towed to an outside shop, or a major job (like this one) is needed, they have Mike's and others do it. |

Actually, at LIB, this would be odd, even in a special circumstance. In the five boroughs, however, it is the norm for a Mike's Towing truck to be towing an NYCTA or MTA Bus bus more often than you think. |

From the looks of it, that bus appears like it should be repairable, it does not seem like there is an inordinate amount of damage. I guess it all depends on what kind of damage was done to the undercarriage. |

Mike's Towing and Apple Towing are the ONLY companies authorized to tow for MTA Bus. MTA Bus has only one tow truck and thats from the old Queens Surface. They do not use this truck for road calls from what I understand. Don't even think about the old Triboro truck, new buses are too heavy. Mike's was doing the towing for Green, Jamaica, Triboro and Command before the take over. |

They can't tell you to stop. And the homeowner would have to tell you to keep off his property. But you probably just can't cross a police line, especially without media credentials. |

These accidents seem to be a LGA Depot thing now and especially with the Ex-QSC TMC RTSs. 1st it was 9736. Then 9785. And NOW 9787- which will be scrapped. Some parts will probably be taken off of it and the rest will sit at ECS for which they will take some parts off of it as well. The bus will be nothing but a shell in a few months time. Trust me on that one.The Q45 is a very short and clutsy route from 74 Street and Roosevelt to 80 Street and Eliot Ave. I don't understand why that route is designed as is. Calamus Ave and 79 Street can be very trecherous even for a car to go up and down on so I can't begin to imagine how they are for a bus. Speed bumps or traffic lights have to be installed on those blocks. If not that, then at least make 1 of them one way. |
