1996 Orion Vs, Classics, and CNG RTSs trip |
|
Posted by The Flxible Neofan on Sat Nov 11 13:43:32 2006 Hiya! So, I'm thinking of taking a day off to explore the New York area. FIrst, I was wondering where I could get the 1996 Orion Vs, and what rotues tend to run them. Or, better yet, are there any recordings of their engines available? Also, where do the classics run the most, as well as the CNG RTSs? Are there any other ideas for interesting things to ride? I imagine it's near impossible now to get a Bee-Line Flxible, and how far away is Westchester County from Brooklyn by train/bus? Your help is appreciated! I don't think there are many Classics or CNG RTSs left...if you want a CNG try the B103 in the AM around 6-8 or the B100 in the PM around 3-6.For an MCI Classic try Madison Sq Park (23rd & Broadway/Madison) in the PM. |

If you want a RTS CNG, you're best waiting spots are at 57th Street and 2nd Avenue or Park Place and Church Street during the PM Rush, Adams Street & Tillary Street or Flatlands Avenue & East 94th Street at anytime, and/or East 16th Street and Quentin Road or 56th Drive and Strickland Avenue at anytime, RTS CNG's never run on Sundays, and barely run on Saturdays on the express routes.1995/1996 Orion V's are not hard to find at all, just go to Main Street and Roosevelt Avenue and you'll find oodles of them on over 10 routes. |

If you want a Classic, you should wait on Madison Avenue and 25th Street during the PM Rush, I personally prefer the Yonkers Depot Classics as they have more comfortable seats, but that's just my opinion. |

The remaining Classics are as follows:About 4 or 5 at JFK on local routes Express routes from the Bronx (ending around Madison Square Park, 23 and 5). All express Classics from Brooklyn and Queens are now retired. As for the 1996 O5s (631-680), try around Flushing-Main Street station, as most Stengel routes converge there. Local CNG RTS buses run on the B100 route and B103 route. The express CNG RTS buses are all retired. |

Aren't there Classics at LaGuardia?Anyways, there are express RTS at the Ulmer Park, Queens Village, and Jamaica depots. Ulmer Park is in Brooklyn and most of its routes are mainly concentrated in Coney Island. Queens Village and Jamaica are in Queens; Jamaica is concentrated mostly in Jamaica and Southeastern Queens, and Queens Village is concentrated in Central-Eastern Queens. |

No former Triboro Classics made it to MTA Bus. However, I was presuming that MTA Bus was being asked about only, not NYC Transit express RTS buses (and excluding 1837 and 1857, which still run). |

There are still diesel express RTSs at Queens Village, Jamaica, and Ulmer Park (NovaBus RTS buses), and 1 express RTS at JFK (1837, originally 3503---not to be confused with Orion VII 3503, and 1857, originally 3893, at LaGuardia). |

The RTS CNG's are starting to be impossible to get. As a matter of fact, alot of the RTS's from Spring Creek are impossible to get now.For the RTS CNG's I suggest the B100 during AM and PM Rush Hours. There's at least 1 that covers midday service and maybe saturday service. If you want the GM RTS's and the lone 1180(1187 just got retired), try the B103 during the rush hours and saturday afternoon. The 1996 Orion V's are pretty much on all the CS routes but the X51. You can try the area of Main and Roosevelt in Flushing and you won't have a problem getting one. The Classics from Eastchester is pretty much on just about all the routes they have on weekdays, mostly at rush hour but they can pop up for midday service. You can try in the morning on any eastchester route in the bronx. And both the morning and afternoon rush hour heading towards the bronx. For the Yonkers Classic, they are hard to find but they are mostly on the BXM3 and BXM4A/4B. Anywhere along Madison Ave is fine. You can also pick one up in Harlem as well(125th and Madison) but only the BXM3 and BXM4A/4B would stop there but you may need to flag it down as they make sneak by(The M1 also stops there). I know the 3:05 PM BXM3 N/B has been a classic for the fall pick so you can try that BXM3 trip . |

I bet that even the X51 has occasionally used O5 Subs in the past when they're was something going on with the express fleet at Stengel or something. |

Yeah, I heard of that, I think it's because of the clearance in the Bronx or something, and I think that Stengel just operates the Bayside X32 runs with the others belonging to Queens Village. |
