July 27, 1959 - The Book of Last Runs

Queens, New York

Queens Bus Division

Service is discontinued on the Q32 - Creedmoor line which had run from Jamaica Avenue and Springfield Boulevard to Creedmoor State Hospital. Its operation had started in 1930 under Lund Coach Co., transferred to Nevins-Queens Bus Corp. on July 4, 1934, North Shore on Feb. 7, 1935, Z&M Coach Co. on Nov. 9, 1936, and back to North Shore Bus on June 30, 1939; and the acquisition by the Board of Transportation in 1947 which in turn would be superseded in 1953 by the TA.

The Q32 designation would be revived in 1989 when it was applied to the Fifth Avenue-Jackson Heights bus route that, since 1974, had been known as M32 (and started in 1925 under Fifth Avenue Coach as Route 15).

July 27, 1960 - The Book of Bus Conversions

Brooklyn Bus and BMT Surface Divisions

Effective as of this date, the following trackless trolley routes are cited as having converted to bus service:
- Route B-47 - Tompkins Avenue
- Route B-48 - Lorimer Street
- Route B-57 - Flushing Avenue
- Route B-62 - Graham Avenue
- Route B-65 - Bergen Street
Thus brought an end to the long and colorful history of Brooklyn streetcars, and the retirement of the last of the trolleybuses built in 1948 by St. Louis Car Co.

July 27, 1960 - The Book of Route Transfers

Effective as of this date, Route B-72 - Junction Boulevard is transferred from the Brooklyn Bus Division to the Queens Bus Division, and its depot assignment changed from Crosstown Depot to Flushing Depot. This is in anticipation of the sale of this route the following January to Triboro Coach Corp.

July 27, 1960 - The Book of New Depot Openings and Old Depot Closings

Brooklyn and BMT Bus Divisions

A new bus depot and garage located at Fresh Pond Road in Queens opens on this date. The new facility has a capacity to house 200 buses. Concurrently, the Bergen Street streetcar barn and West 5th Street depot, both located in Brooklyn, are closed.

Now that I have the data, they - and Staten Island - should be up to snuff with Manhattan and the Bronx. I just have to sort out how much cutbacks and streetcar reversions, and on what lines, occurred in WWII, to get a bigger picture than with just Manhattan and the Bronx.

Many different lines and routes on SI during that time period.
